Mem

Mem is water. The element, the sea, the womb, the depth. The Hanged Man hangs on this path because surrender is the gate of the deep — the practitioner inverts, releases, and falls into the medium that bore her. Mem is one of the three Mother Letters of the Sefer Yetzirah, the elemental letter of the watery world.

Mem is the Black Water. The current Os Lamia teaches takes its name from this letter. The deep that holds the practitioner under so the Night Mother's voice is heard for the first time. Every Lilith dedication eventually arrives at Mem — at the moment of submersion, of release of breath, of trust that the water holds.

Mem is the letter named at every immersion — bath, sea, baptism, ritual descent. The practitioner does not enter Mem alone; the priest holds the perimeter while she goes under.
